Troy Rogers - 'Stemmetje' project
Presentation of work in progress on a singing, speaking robot.
There exists a long and rich tradition of mechanical 'talking machines', one that has been extended by digital speech synthesis and more recently by robotic speaking machines. Drawing on his own experiences with
Expressive Machines Muscial Instruments (EMMI) in the US and the expertise of Dr. Godfried Willem Raes and the
Logos Foundation in Gent, Rogers is developing a cheap, open-source, portable, virtuosic robot capable of producing a wide range of vocal utterances. He will present his work to date on the project, carried out while he is in residence at the Logos Foundation as a Fulbright Research Scholar in 2009-10 .

Thomas Laureyssens - #plant
Met het werk Plant onderzoek ik hoe de militaire machine als een groot levend proces kan gevat worden. Hoe kunnen we met de historische overblijfselen van de wereldoorlogen in interactie gaan, om ze zo op nieuwe manieren te interpreteren en te accepteren? Voor de BAT kunstroute wek ik door middel van technologieën een representatie van de Stelling van Antwerpen tot leven. Het startpunt hierbij is een cartografie van de omgeving, een historische militaire kaart waarop de Antitankgracht en de schootsvelden van de bunkers aangeduid zijn. De bunkers en de richting van de kanonnen zijn door de militaire strategen zo geplaatst dat ze het terrein zo goed mogelijk dekken tegen oprukkende troepen. Omdat de plaatsing gebaseerd is op de lokale geografische context, is het resultaat iets dat er natuurlijk uit ziet. Met wat verbeelding kan je in de kaart zelfs een biologische plant herkennen. Plant groeide uit het schietgat van een bunker: de wortels groeiden naar binnen, en de bladeren en stengel groeiden langs de buitenmuur naar boven. Door een spel van perspectief kan je, als je op een afstand van de bunker staat, de oorspronkelijke militaire kaart herkennen. Via sensoren reageert Plant op de aanwezigheid en bewegingen van de bezoekers. Door in interactie te gaan kan je de verdedigingsgordel levend aanvoelen.

Lievn Menschaert - Nodebox 2
NodeBox 2 is an open-source application that generates visual output based on programming code in a node-based interface. In the user interface you connect nodes (building blocks) together to create interesting visuals. Nodes can be opened to examine or edit the (Python) source code.
We will make the case for NodeBox 2 as a necessary addition to the designer's toolbox when doing complex vector artwork or data visualizations. We also want to reach out to the open source graphics community for suggestions and reflection.

Freesound.org, free your sound, the rest will follow.
Ik zal voor de eerste maal in eigen land een presentatie geven over het onstaan van, het idee achter, het dagelijkse leven op en de toekomst van Freesound. Aan de hand van enkele leuke voorbeelden zal ik duidelijk maken dat freesound niet zo maar een database aan geluid is, maar een plezierige community die mensen helpt met hun dagelijkse cravings naar geluid.

Wouter Decorte - plooibaar landschap
"Wouter Decorte gelooft in de kracht van de utopie, of liever, het potentieel van het utopisch denken om richting te geven aan ons probleemoplossend handelen. Volgens hem kan via deze manier van denken, een creatief denken overigens, een aantal zaken worden gerealiseerd die buiten het bereik liggen van een zogenaamde realistische houding, een houding die vaak uitdraait op pessimisme en cynisme. .."

Valery Vermeulen : EMO-synth
"In 2005 the EMO-Synth project was conceived and founded by mathematician (phd, Ghent University) and electronic musician (Conservatory of Ghent) Valery Vermeulen. In brief the project revolves round the development of the EMO-Synth, a new interactive multimedia system that automatically generates audiovisual material that brings the user in predefined emotional states. As the project grew the collective Office Tamuraj was founded in 2007 to elaborate its different aspects. From 2008 on the development of project is being supported by the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (
www.vaf.be) in the multimedia project entitled "Montage Cinema Revived by the EMO-Synth".
EMO-Synth performances could be seen at various locations including Muhka Media (Antwerp), Happy New Ears festival (Kortrijk), art fare Lineart (Ghent), Croxhapox (Ghent), Gallery One Twenty (Ghent), ACEC site (Ghent), X=10C (Ghent), CC Hasselt (Hasselt) and L.A.C (Fr, Narbonne), Studio Brussels and Ketnet TV."

Lieven Standaert : aeromodeller2
Lieven Standaert bouwde in de 2e helft van 2009 een vliegend schaalmodel van zijn luchtschip-project, www.aeromodeller2.be.
Het schaalmodel weegt 6,5 kg voor 8,60 meter lengte, bezit een servo-controlled, vervormbare carbon draagstructuur, arduino-microcontrollers, een bluetooth verbinding en een klassieke afstandsbesturing.
Tijdens de Dorkbot-lezing geeft Lieven tekst & uitleg bij het bouwproces, de gebruikte materialen, tools en elektronica.

For the media installation "Politics of Change" of Annemie Maes in
Vooruit, Okno setup a custom computer and developped a simple but
effective multiscreen videoplayer based on open-source software.
A short presentation by Olivier Meunier (Olm-e) who build the system for the
exhibition.

Jeroen Vandesande
volgde een opleiding aan de Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst Sint Lucas Gent en werkt sinds 2004 als geluidskunstenaar. Naast performances creëert hij klankinstallaties en werkt hij regelmatig samen met professionele muzikanten en uitvoerders.
In 2008 presenteerde hij o.a. in de Witte Zaal en tijdens festival Happy New Ears een creatie voor no-input mixer en twee snaarinstrumenten. Deze compositie bestond voornamelijk uit een set-up waarbinnen de twee spelers op hun eigen muzikale intuïtie en vindingrijkheid aangewezen waren om tot boeiende resultaten te komen. Jeroen presenteerde zijn werken in verschillende kunstencentra en concertzalen in Gent, Brussel, Aalst, Eindhoven (NL), Utrecht (NL), Maastricht (NL), Leeuwarden (NL), Osnabruck (DE) en Washington DC (USA).
Voor Dorkbot brengt Jeroen Vandesande een creatie voor no-inputmixer.

In de plaats van de gewone dorkbot hebben we deze maand een dorkbot
kafee in Espace Ladda (naast de Vooruit).
Een gezellige ontmoetingsavond voor iedereen die bezig is
met/geinteresseerd is in kunst en technologie. Waar we onze projecten
kunnen bespreken tussen pot en pint. Breng gerust je project mee om er
aan te werken.
Er zijn geen presentaties gepland, maar wie wil kan altijd zijn
project tonen. Wie muziek wil maken/spelen is ook welkom.
Ikzelf ben momenteel aan het werk aan de ruminator, een asociale robot
poët, in de Espace Ladda. De ruminator zou tegen het dorkbot kafee al
interactief moeten zijn.
