Wat kan je doen met de flapperende letters van een oud stations informatiepaneel??

Tobias Depessemier en Marc Vandermeulen komen vertellen wat ze ermee willen doen en hoe je de letters via arduino kan aansturen.
Ze zoeken ook mensen met voorstellen om het bord/de letters te gebruiken in artistieke context.

This month's Dorkbot is part of the 'how to save the world in 10 days' festival at Vooruit and features :

YASMVP (yet another simple multiscreen video player)

For the media installation "Politics of Change" of Annemie Maes in
Vooruit, Okno setup a custom computer and developped a simple but
effective multiscreen videoplayer based on open-source software.
A short presentation by Olivier Meunier (Olm-e) who build the system for the
exhibition.

Jean-Noël Montagné.

Born 1963. Artist and activist from Nice, France.
Founder of non-profit ressources center for interactive technologies in Art, CRASlab, in Paris (http://www.craslab.org). Where artists, students and teachers can discover and simulate interactive processes in an open source software/hardware sensors/actuators/multimedia environnement.

The Bricophone project http://www.bricophone.org is the project of a low cost open source mesh network portable communication system. 
The fluXtation project http://www.fluxtation.org is a project of a low cost global and local broadcasting studio in a box.
JNM is also working on an open source cardiac defibrillator, and on the just new "open source washing machine" project.

Jeroen Vandesande

volgde een opleiding aan de Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst Sint Lucas Gent en werkt sinds 2004 als geluidskunstenaar. Naast performances creëert hij klankinstallaties en werkt hij regelmatig samen met professionele muzikanten en uitvoerders.
In 2008 presenteerde hij o.a. in de Witte Zaal en tijdens festival Happy New Ears een creatie voor no-input mixer en twee snaarinstrumenten. Deze compositie bestond voornamelijk uit een set-up waarbinnen de twee spelers op hun eigen muzikale intuïtie en vindingrijkheid aangewezen waren om tot boeiende resultaten te komen. Jeroen presenteerde zijn werken in verschillende kunstencentra en concertzalen in Gent, Brussel, Aalst, Eindhoven (NL), Utrecht (NL),  Maastricht (NL), Leeuwarden (NL), Osnabruck (DE) en Washington DC (USA).

Voor Dorkbot brengt Jeroen Vandesande een creatie voor no-inputmixer.

In de plaats van de gewone dorkbot hebben we deze maand een dorkbot
kafee in Espace Ladda (naast de Vooruit).

Een gezellige ontmoetingsavond  voor iedereen die bezig is
met/geinteresseerd is in kunst en technologie. Waar we onze projecten
kunnen bespreken tussen pot en pint. Breng gerust je project mee om er
aan te werken.

Er zijn geen presentaties gepland, maar wie wil kan altijd zijn
project tonen. Wie muziek wil maken/spelen is ook welkom.

Ikzelf ben momenteel aan het werk aan de ruminator, een asociale robot
poët, in de Espace Ladda. De ruminator zou tegen het dorkbot kafee al
interactief moeten zijn.

PIC18 microcontroller programming with Staapl - Tom Schouten

Staapl consists of two components: a programming language based on Forth for
writing low-level microcontroller code, and a metaprogramming system written
in Scheme, which can be used to extend this Forth language, or create
entirely new programming languages.

This presentation is about the Forth system and language, showing the
usefulness of an interactive command console (i.e. direct control of IO
pins, uploading small scripts while running, ...) when debugging small
embedded hardware projects.

<Toypi> and <Picradars> demo - Logos Foundation

The Logos Foundation is one of Belgium's leading centres for experimental music, specialized in the development of new instruments and interfaces for interactive applications. Since several years, Logos has been building many musical robots that can interact with musicians, dancers, performers etc.
This robot orchestra is part of the <M&M>ensemble (Man and Machines), a group of professional musicians specialized in interactive performances with machines.
<Toypi>, a robotic chromatic grand toy piano, is one of the newest and smallest members of the orchestra.
<PicRadar> is a microwave radar based installation for capturing information on human body movement to be used for controlling automated musical instruments and robots.

mesh_up_beta - Corneel Cannaerts

mesh_up is an ongoing research project that explores the interface between physical and digital space, the intermeshing of audio and visuals. the beta version is limited performance part of a larger installation setup.
Corneel Cannaerts teaches mixed media at sint-lucas architectuur ghent and brussels

'Rood Monochroom' - Stefaan Quix

Een leeg zwart, beeld evolueert langzaam naar een leeg rood beeld;
compromisloos worden alle stadia tussen deze twee monochromen gedissecteerd.
De klankband onderzoekt op dezelfde manier herhaling en fase tot het
verschil tussen de twee vervaagt.

recycled machines #1: circledrawer by Kurt Van Houtte

Kurt Van Houtte is a maker, interaction builder and new media manipulator.
This machine is the first in what has to become a series of recycled office machines.
It tries to draw perfect circles, but never succeeds.
It responds to sound volumes in the room and acts as a recorder of what is happening around it.

The circledrawer will be active and explained.

The internet of things by Rob Van Kranenburg

Europes Future and Emergent Technology Programs as well as the major corporate labs have fallen unequivocally for Ambient which for the first time in the history of technology sets forth its own disappearance as
technology as fundamental to its success. The result will be dumb interfaces that hide all keys to the technology that drives it.
Consequently it will keep citizens from being able not only to fix it when it is broken but to build on it, to play with it, to remake, remodel, and reuse it for their own ends. I believe this being able to negotiate stuff,
stuff that is axiomatic thinking embodied, is called creativity.
